House Panel Approves Fundng for Two Silk City Transportation Projects

Pascrell Requested Appropriations for West Broadway Bridge;
Interchange Improvements at I-80/Route 20

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-N.J., 8th) announced that the House Appropriations Committee yesterday approved funding he requested for two transportation projects in the City of Paterson.  The Committee approved $350,000 for improvements to the West Broadway Bridge and an additional $200,000 for improvements at the intersection of Interstate 80 and Route 20.  Pascrell is a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and has made delivering federal dollars back to his district a top priority.

"I am very pleased that the House Appropriations Committee today approved our request for funding for two needed transportation projects in Paterson," Pascrell said.  "This is an important legislative step toward securing these dollars.  Taxpayers deserve to have the money they send to Washington invested back into their community."

The funding earmarked for West Broadway Bridge will fund final design of the rehabilitation of the bridge.  The project will include repairing current cracks, and rust, allow pedestrian traffic currently barred, and bring the bridge up to current federal standards.  The I-80 / Route 20 interchange improvement project will include elimination of redundant moves within the roadway, and signage upgrades.

The Transportation Appropriations bill is one of 13 spending bills enacted each year.  The measure approved by the Committee yesterday will now move to the full House for a vote, and then to the full Senate.  After final approval by both Houses, the bill is sent to the President.
