U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today attacked a hearing Thursday in a House Committee on Natural Resources subcommittee where Republicans met to discuss legislation that would fine states for taking measures to block drilling off their coastlines. “Here we go again. After passing their tax scam on the backs of New Jersey, after attempting to scuttle funding for the Gateway Tunnel, and after trying to steal funds for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, congressional Republicans are back to take even more money from New Jersey. This proposal is nothing more than legislative blackmail. It is government by vengeance. New Jerseyans know offshore drilling is a terrible idea that threatens our tourism, our fishing industries, and our coastal ecosystem. Hundreds of thousands of jobs would be imperiled just so Trump and congressional Republicans can stick it to New Jersey one more time. I hope my colleagues in the New Jersey delegation will stand united against this vindictive attack.” |
