WASHINGTON - Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-8) issued the following statement regarding today's debate in House of Representatives of H.R 1036, The Gun Manufacturer's Liability Reform Act.  Pascrell is the author of H.R. 693, the federal Childproof Handgun Act, first introduced in the House of Representatives in 1999.

"Those who profit from the sale of guns have the ultimate responsibility to safeguard the American public by ensuring that their weapons do not get into the wrong hands.

We've all heard, on far too many occasions, stories of dealer negligence that result in tragic consequences.  Irresponsible gun dealers must be held accountable for their dangerous and wanton behavior.

Out of respect for gun violence victims throughout our nation, this legislation should be ripped up and sent back to where it came from-the NRA's leadership."
