Pascrell Pleased with Whitman Hudson Cleanup Plan

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-N.J., 8th) issued the following statement today regarding EPA Administrator Christie Whitman's decision to go forward with the Hudson PCB cleanup plan:

"After an unnecessarily lengthy delay, EPA Administrator Whitman made the right decision to allow the PCB cleanup plan to proceed. No amount of propaganda, public relations or lobbying by General Electric, not even $60 million worth, can overcome what is right for the pubic health and our environment. Cleaning up our nation's largest Superfund site must be a top priority, and we're seeing that with today's decision."

PCB's are among the most hazardous substances in our environment according to the EPA, and we have an obligation to get this cleanup moving. By combining safe technology and precise environmental dredging, this plan is the right approach, and I commend the Administrator for doing the right thing for our region."
