"David Safavian's convictions mark a milestone of shame in the history of the White House.  But as Congress continues to abandon its oversight responsibility, criminals like Mr. Safavian will continue to mismanage the federal government from its highest ranks and reap benefits at the taxpayer expense. The convictions handed down today signal progress in ending the culture of corruption in Washington, but there is still a great amount of work to be done.

Its only a matter of time before the this scandal exposing David Safavian, Jack Abramoff and others blows the roof off the Teapot Dome scandal.

In my role on the Homeland Security Committee I am focused on bringing oversight and accountability to the barrage of mismanagement and abuse occurring at the Department of Homeland Security.  It is incumbent upon Congress to strengthen the ethical standard and bring honesty to the federal contracting practice.  It is our moral obligation."
