Pascrell Statement on Meeting with Chinese Vice Premier Liu He
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09), the Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade, issued the following statement following his attendance in a meeting between members of the Ways and Means Committee and a delegation from the Chinese government headed by Chinese Vice Premier Liu He.
“I welcomed the opportunity to meet with Chinese Vice Premier Liu He. I told the Chinese delegation that while I may not always support this Administration’s tactics or rhetoric, I fully agree that China’s overcapacity in steel and aluminum and mistreatment of U.S. technology and IP have created a crisis. Their cheating has hurt U.S. businesses and workers. We need real change, not just ‘happy talk,’ from China. The Vice Premier heard our concerns and seemed open to working toward a solution. I plan to hold them to it,” said Rep. Pascrell.
Rep. Pascrell has been a strong critic of China’s flouting the rules of the international economy which have hurt American workers, businesses, and consumers. In an op-ed published this month in the Bergen Record he discussed his support of tariffs under certain conditions in order to stop China’s destructive practices.
