PATERSON, NJ – U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) offered the following statement in reaction to the forced resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions just announced by Donald Trump.

“Less than 24 hours after the American people dealt a clear rejection of this White House’s chaos, corruption, and cruelty, and hours after threatening Democrats for conducting oversight of him, Donald Trump is attempting to give direct control over the Mueller probe to a handpicked loyalist. This doozy of an appointment wouldn’t make it to air as an episode of The Apprentice. But why should we be shocked? Trump has consistently sought to turn our nation’s Department of Justice into his bodyguard. The firing of Jeff Sessions is nothing less than another fusillade against the rule of law.  

“In January, Democrats will begin real oversight of this administration and hold it to account. We can’t begin soon enough.”
