PATERSON, N.J. – Today, U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (NJ-09), member of the House Ways and Means Committee, issued the following statement regarding initial reports of increased premiums for 2018 in New Jersey’s Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace. Final premium rates for 2018 must be submitted by September 5. "New Jersey has faced three years of modest premium increases in its ACA Marketplace, but reports of carriers proposing double-digit increases for 2018 are not surprising given the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans’ repeated attempts to sabotage the ACA. For all the lip service Republicans pay to ‘market-based solutions,’ they seem unconcerned about the fact that insurance companies need clarity on issues like cost sharing reduction payments and whether the individual mandate will be enforced in order to accurately price their products. I urge the Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress to stop playing politics and provide the certainty needed to stabilize the ACA Marketplaces." |
