Rep. Pascrell Statement on President Trump’s Decision to End Critical Cost-Sharing Payments
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ), a member of the Ways and Means Committee, today released the following statement in response to the decision by President Trump to end critical cost-sharing payments:
"You don't need to be from New Jersey to know a protection racket when you see one. Thanks to President Trump's unnecessary move, one million Americans will lose their insurance, premiums will rise 20 percent, and our deficit will rise over $190 billion. It takes leadership to negotiate a deal to permanently stabilize the marketplace. It only takes thuggery to purposefully destabilize the health care marketplace, forcing middle class families to pay more for their healthcare in the expectation that a dysfunctional Congress can clean up the mess. There is not one consumer organization that has voiced their support for this maneuver. No action by this President will distract me from our fight for affordable, comprehensive health care for all Americans," Rep. Pascrell said.
"From health care, to climate change, to national monuments, to threats to break the Iran deal, as well as threatened withdrawal from flawed NAFTA and KORUS trade agreements, President Trump shows no commitment to improving these deals to help the plight of middle class Americans. Rather, he seeks to break these longstanding agreements for the sake of being destructive, ignoring promises the American people rely upon for economic safety and security."
