Rep. Pascrell Statement on Trump Review of National Monument Designations
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representatives Bill Pascrell, Jr. (NJ-09), a member of the Ways and Means Committee, issued a statement on President Trump's review of national monument designations.
"Selling our nation’s public lands to special interests is a tale as old as time. That is why I worry about President Trump's actions today to undermine the protections in place to protect public lands," said Rep. Pascrell. "I understand the goal of today's order is to strip critical protections in places like Bears Ears National Monument so our public lands can be drained for its resources and sold to the highest bidder. As a student of history, I know that giving federal lands to private entities without a robust and transparent public process is the same issue that led to the Teapot Dome scandal. Without seeing the President's tax returns we have no idea if today's executive order is a step toward history repeating itself."
