Rep. Pascrell Calls on AG Sessions to Step Down

U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement today regarding news that U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions may have met with the Russian Ambassador during the campaign without disclosing it to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"Under penalty of perjury, Attorney General Jeff Sessions told the Senate Judiciary Committee, 'I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians.' Now, we now know that statement is not true," said Rep. Pascrell. "Regardless of what hat he was wearing, Attorney General Sessions lied under oath to Congress about his communications with the Russians. With the numerous questions these meetings and reasons for his misleading remaining, Attorney General Sessions must step down.

"Again, we learn that senior members of President Trump’s team misled the public about contacts with the Russians. Again, several questions remain about President Trump and his team’s political, personal and financial connections to the Russians," said Rep. Pascrell. "President Trump can start to clear up these questions by releasing his tax returns so the public can see what, if any, connections exist between him and Russia. Additionally there must be an independent, bipartisan, outside commission established to get to the bottom of these questions."
