Congressman Pascrell Applauds The Launch Of NJ Transit’s Limited Weekend Service On The Montclair-Boonton Line

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-08) today applauded NJ Transit’s announcement of bi-hourly weekend service rail service to be launched from Montclair’s Bay Street Station in November.

“The people of Montclair, Glen Ridge and Bloomfield and other communities have waited a long time for weekend service,” said Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-8), who has served on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. “Not only will this additional rail service encourage the people who live in these towns to use mass transit while they have their weekend fun, but it will also allow more people access to the shopping areas, recreational facilities and restaurants that these great communities have to offer.”

Pascrell wrote to NJ Transit Director Richard Sarles in June emphasizing the need for the agency to act on its intent to provide weekend service on the Montclair-Boonton line in order to relive congested roadways.

Limited weekend service on the Montclair-Boonton line is tentatively scheduled to begin on Nov. 8.

Trains will run every two hours from Montclair’s Bay Street station and continue with stops at Glen Ridge, Bloomfield, Watsessing Avenue (also in Bloomfield) Broad Street (Newark) and terminating in Hoboken.

This limited service is expected to be a first step that will be followed by more extensive weekend service on the Montclair-Boonton line.
