Pascrell Praises Protestors in Hong Kong and Moscow
Washington, August 12, 2019
U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today applauded continuing demonstrations being held by citizens in Hong Kong and in Moscow standing against anti-democratic repression by the governments of China and Russia.
“The protests the world has been watching are an inspiration. These brave people are sending a message to their repressive governments and the world that freedom, the rule of law, and democracy cannot be silenced,” said Rep. Pascrell, a longtime opponent of illiberal regimes across the world. “Standing against injustice is no easy thing. These women and men are courageously demanding the human dignity to which every individual on this earth is entitled. No different than a flickering flame standing against harsh winds, they deserve the support of all Americans.
“But where we can extol their bravery, we should assign derision to the silence of the White House. The leadership of this administration which seeks warm praise in Riyadh, Moscow, and Pyongyang simultaneously turns its back on the victims of those violent regimes and others. Now is the time for the nation’s chief executive and chief diplomat to speak out and help keep the flame of liberty alive.”
