U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today voted in favor of two bills supporting reunions of divided Korean families. H.Res. 410 expresses the opinion of the House of Representatives that families divided as a result of the Korean War should be reunited. H.R. 1771, the Divided Families Reunification Act, directs the Department of State to consult with South Korea on potential opportunities to reunite Korean-Americans with family in North Korea. Rep. Pascrell is an original sponsor of H.Res. 410 and voted in support of both bills today. “With more than ten million family members divided by the Korean War, it is imperative we find a way to reunite them with their loved ones,” said Rep. Pascrell, a strong ally of New Jersey’s Korean-American community. “Decades have passed, and these families have suffered long enough. They deserve to see their relatives again. Today along with my friends Congresswomen Grace Meng and Karen Bass, we are taking a major step towards making reunification a possibility for many of our Korean-American neighbors.” Rep. Pascrell is one of Congress’s most vocal supporters of North Jersey’s vibrant Korean-American community. Last week, Pascrell visited Palisades Park where he denounced racial stigmas being associated with the ongoing coronavirus epidemic and pledged his support for local Korean-American businesses. |
