Pascrell Calls for Activating US Manufacturers to Provide Medical Supplies
New Arsenal of Democracy vital to winning war against COVID-19
Paterson, NJ, March 17, 2020
U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today reiterated his calls for the Trump administration to invoke its powers granted by Congress under the Defense Production Act and immediately begin enlisting American businesses and factories to produce medical and other supplies for America’s growing war against COVID-19.
“America emerged victorious in the Second War World because we were able to marshal the incredible power of American industry to build the Arsenal of Democracy that powered an unbeatable war effort,” said Rep. Pascrell. “We are in a new war today upon which America’s endurance rests. The needs of our health workers at hospitals across New Jersey and America are growing by the hour. Lives depend on these heroes absolutely. We can and must reactivate our manufacturing capacity to give them the tools to finish their job. Let’s begin building immediately our new Arsenal of Democracy and win this war.”
Yesterday Rep. Pascrell and Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) led a letter urging the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to deliver much needed medical supplies to New Jersey, including personal protective gear, to assist frontline healthcare workers in their response.
