Pascrell Hails $1.4 Billion Award to NJ TRANSIT

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today celebrated the awarding of $1.4 billion to New Jersey Transit Corporation (NJ TRANSIT). The funding is being dispersed through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act (H.R. 748) passed by Congress last month and will be used to help sustain agency operations during the ongoing pandemic. Importantly, the grant is 100 percent federally-funded and no local match is required.

“New Jerseyans rely on our mass transit system perhaps more than any other state and this ongoing pandemic has crippled New Jersey TRANSIT’s operations,” said Rep. Pascrell, a longtime champion of regional transit and former member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. “If our buses and trains and ferries don’t get support now, they will be broken beyond repair. This award is exactly what Congress intended when we passed the CARES Act: sending relief directly to the Americans and states that need it most. New Jersey qualifies and this money will help us survive this crisis and pick right back up when this nightmare is over.”
