Pascrell Announces $15.4 Million to Establish Electric Vehicle Charging Network in New Jersey

Clean energy initiative made possible by President Biden’s Infrastructure and Jobs Act

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) announced today that the U.S. Departments of Transportation and Energy will provide $15,448,790 to support an electric vehicle charging network in New Jersey. The funds are part of a larger Biden Administration initiative that will provide nearly $5 billion over five years to help states create a national network of charging stations along designated Alternative Fuel Corridors, particularly along the Interstate Highway System.

“With the establishment of the interstate highway system, America ushered in a new era of automotive travel. Today, the Biden Administration is putting America back into the driver’s seat and leading us into the next era of automotive innovation,” said Rep. Pascrell. “We included electric vehicle funds in President Biden’s infrastructure bill because clean energy is the future and America is at its best when it leads the way. And New Jersey can lead the way in setting up our national electric vehicle charging network with this federal investment. I look forward to working with our state and federal partners to get this project rolling.”

“A century ago, America ushered in the modern automotive era; now America must lead the electric vehicle revolution,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “The President’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will help us win the EV race by working with states, labor, and the private sector to deploy a historic nationwide charging network that will make EV charging accessible for more Americans.”

“We are modernizing America’s national highway system for drivers in cities large and small, towns and rural communities, to take advantage of the benefits of driving electric,” said U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm. “The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is helping states to make electric vehicle charging more accessible by building the necessary infrastructure for drivers across America to save money and go the distance, from coast-to-coast.”

Rep. Pascrell is New Jersey’s foremost proponent of clean energy initiatives in Congress. He uses his position on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee to protect our environment, combat climate change, and preserve our natural resources. Rep. Pascrell is also a cosponsor of the landmark Green New Deal and played an integral role in passing President Biden’s Infrastructure and Jobs Act which made these electric vehicle funds available for New Jersey.
