Rep. Pascrell Statement on Trump Budget Proposal

Today, U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09), New Jersey’s only member of the House Ways and Means Committee, issued the following statement on President Trump’s FY19 budget request:

“President Trump’s budget is a sad joke,” said Rep. Pascrell. “Slashing the federal budget in the name of deficit reduction rings hollow when the Trump Administration championed a deficit-busting $1.5 trillion dollar tax cut skewed to the wealthiest. As I continue to read the details of President Trump’s budget, I am appalled by the drastic cuts to Medicare, Social Security, transportation funding, education, housing, preserving our environment and first responders.”

Pascrell continued, “I asked how Republicans planned to pay for their massive corporate tax cut, and they’ve answered with this budget – the middle-class and working families will pay. A budget is a reflection of our values, and this one is morally bankrupt.”
