Rep. Pascrell Statement on Senate Russia Sanctions Bill Re-passage

Today, U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (NJ-09), author of the No Russian DACHA Act (link here), released a statement following the Senate's second passage of Russian sanctions ahead of President Donald Trump's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week.

"Congress needs to enact expanded Russia sanctions immediately. Now that the Senate has approved corrected legislation there should be no excuse for delay here in the House. When the leadership has wanted it to happen, I’ve seen legislation move through these chambers so fast it would give you whiplash."

"President Trump is scheduled to meet with Vladimir Putin next week. Undeniably, Russia interfered to great effect in our most fundamental democratic process, our presidential election. And today Russia threatens our planes in Syria and has not retreated from their invasion of Crimea. Yet despite this, Mr. Trump has toyed with easing sanctions against Russia and has refused to stand up to Mr. Putin. We must not cover for an administration refusing to upset Moscow. It’s time to stop letting Russia get away with their egregious acts of aggression. It was wrong for process delays to hold up the bill earlier in the week – let’s act now."
