Pascrell Statement on London Terrorist Attacks

My deep prayers and condolences are with the victims of today's terrorist attacks in London. This horrific act of terror will bond the resilient people of England, as it did Americans four years ago.  Their strength will bring light to this very dark day in English history.
The attacks in London are a grim reminder of the type of terror that can easily be carried out on American rail systems.  For anybody who has ever taken a train, this should not come as a surprise.

It is time for our government to take this threat seriously.  Transit riders far outnumber airplane passengers.  During the last three years, the federal government has spent over $12 billion on aviation security.  It has only put $265 million into securing our rails.  This inexplicable disparity must be closed.

As a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, I recognize and have been working to educate Congress on the severity of this obvious gap in our nation's security.

I have not forgotten the way in which the British stood tall at our side after September 11, 2001.  America's support will be reciprocal.
