Pascrell Applauds Governor Corzine's Infrastrucure Investment Plan

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-08) today applauded Governor Jon S. Corzine and the New Jersey Department of Transportation for advancing an infrastructure investment plan that will create jobs and stimulate economic growth in New Jersey.

“I applaud Governor Corzine for recognizing the urgency of investing in New Jersey’s infrastructure.  Infrastructure investment is a surefire way to create new jobs and stimulate the economy.  It is a model I have fought for in Congress since we began considering new ways to boost the economy earlier this year.  If the state of New Jersey can invest nearly $1 billion to create 26,000 jobs in just one year, think what a strong federal investment will do to create jobs, modernize aging infrastructure and restore confidence in the economy.

“I am especially pleased with the Governor’s decision to prioritize projects in Passaic County that will help restore some of the neighborhoods most damaged by the foreclosure crisis and economic downturn.”

“The Passaic-Bergen rail project is just one example of a ready-to-go project that holds enormous potential to create jobs, reinvigorate distressed neighborhoods and provide innovative and environmentally sound transportation options.  I deeply appreciate the state’s commitment to moving the project forward and investing in Paterson’s other mass transportation alternatives.   Improvement to the Paterson Station and the Broadway Bus Terminal will encourage ridership, increase public safety and enhance urban communities.  I welcome the investment and will work to ensure local workers are considered for any new jobs made available.”

“I appreciate the Governor’s call for help from Congress and commit to passing an infrastructure investment similar to the legislation approved in the House just months ago.  With a new Congress, and a new Administration that has already called for an immediate infrastructure investment package, I am confident communities throughout the state and across the country will soon benefit from a wave of new job opportunities and improvements to our roads, bridges, tunnels and other infrastructure.”

Other improvements announced in the Governor’s plan that will benefit the 8th Congressional District include a resurfacing project on Route 80 from Madison Avenue in Paterson to Polifly Road, a sewer rehabilitation project at the Rte 3 Passaic River Crossing and ramp improvements on Rte 21 in Nutley/Lyndhurst.
