Pascrell Endorses Pelosi Call for Trump Tax Returns

Will continue leading the fight for presidential transparency

PATERSON, NJ – Today, U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09), New Jersey’s only member of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee, reacted positively to incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s endorsement of efforts to obtain Donald Trump’s personal and business tax returns by invoking the committee’s power under 26 U.S.C. Sec. 6103(f).

“I stand in strong support of Speaker-designee Pelosi’s calls for scrutiny of Donald Trump’s tax returns. With the next Speaker of the House dedicated to the pursuit of transparency, I am confident we will have the will and the tools to finally expose Trump’s financial history to sunlight. I have been pursuing this fight since February 2017. We will not rest on the committee until Donald Trump’s personal and business records are given total scrutiny. We must see how far the crimes go.”

Rep. Pascrell has been Congress’s most vocal proponent of releasing President Trump’s tax returns in order to reveal any potential conflicts of interest. Since February 2017, Pascrell has led the call for the chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means to invoke Section 6103 of the tax code to obtain Trump’s tax returns. Pascrell believes that exposing the tax returns to sunlight is critical to revealing any potential conflicts of interest, including those with Russian entities. With today’s proceedings, Republicans have voted 18 times to block Democratic resolutions seeking the tax returns.
