Pascrell Reacts to Bridgegate Ruling
Paterson, NJ, May 7, 2020
PATERSON, NJ – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09), who represents Fort Lee, New Jersey which is connected by the George Washington Bridge to New York City, reacted negatively to the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling this morning vacating the convictions of two underlings of former Republican Gov. Chris Christie for their role in the colossal Bridgegate Scandal.
“Bridgegate wrought untold damage onto Garden State communities and pointless misery onto our commuters for no reason except petty spite,” said Rep. Pascrell. “The Court itself describes ‘wrongdoing – deception, corruption, abuse of power.’ We know somebody at the top gave the orders and so no ruling in the world will wash away the corruption of that time.”
“It must be noted that over the last decade, the Court has made it near-impossible to convict public officials for criminal misdeeds. At a time when America desperately needs impartial, principled guidance, the Court choses to be a bodyguard for the powerful, not the people.”
