Pascrell Hails Hudson Tunnel Progress

$292 Million Mega grant from landmark infrastructure law will aid construction of new artery between New Jersey and Empire State

U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) hailed President Biden’s visit today to the tristate area to announce a massive federal investment and marking progress on the construction of the Hudson Tunnel in part through the support of the landmark roads and bridges law enacted by the Democratic Congress last year.

“President Biden’s welcome visit to our region today brings us a giant step closer to constructing the new trans-Hudson tunnel we have sought for so many years,” said Rep. Pascrell. “New Jerseyans are sick of rail delays, and also the political and bureaucratic delays that have plagued this desperately needed project. Our region’s expansion, our very future as an engine of America depends on expanding mass transit capacity. I regret missing today’s celebration as votes and committee business kept me in DC. But I was proud to welcome President Biden to North Jersey in 2021 to kick off reconstructing the critically important Portal Bridge and highlight the need for infrastructure investment. And similarly, today’s visit by the President kicks the tunnel into high gear and highlights how our commuters will benefit from the massive federal roads, bridges, and tunnels law the Congress enacted last Congress. Our law is creating real good paying jobs, improved reliability, enhancing safety, and lowering commuting times for travelers in our region. Today marks another big step towards a tristate for the 21st Century.”
