Pascrell, Blumenauer, Kildee Demand Respect for Workers’ Freedoms Ahead of Crucial Mexico Union Vote

Ways and Means members continue focus amid reports of intimidation against thousands of Chevy and GMC workers

U.S. Reps. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) and Earl Blumenauer (D-OR-03), Chairmen of the House Ways and Means Subcommittees on Oversight and Trade, respectively, alongside Rep. Dan Kildee (D-MI-05), today released the following joint statement amid reports of worker intimidation ahead of next week’s union election at Tridonex auto parts factory in Mexico:

“We are closely monitoring the union election process recently scheduled for Monday, February 28 in Matamoros, México at the Tridonex auto parts factory. This facility was the site for the first independent petition under the USMCA labor rapid response mechanism that House Democrats successfully fought to secure. Reports of worker intimidation and allegations of bribery by the incumbent union at Tridonex are disturbing and unacceptable. The employer and relevant authorities must pursue every available measure to ensure workers are informed of their rights and have full access to a safe, free and fair vote. We support and expect aggressive enforcement action by the Biden administration to protect and defend any workers’ rights that are violated.”
